Key points
- Start from your own plan: which exits do you want automated?
- Safety comes before features. One doubled or missed partial close costs more than a missing button.
- Check the gold details: pip size, symbol names, spread and fast markets.
- Test on a demo account, and prefer sellers who say what they have not tested.
Step 1: write down what you need
Before you compare tools, answer six questions about your own trading. They decide which functions matter to you:
- How do you set your stop loss: a fixed distance, or a level you choose on each trade?
- Do you take profit in one go or in steps, and how many steps?
- When should the stop move to break-even, and should it cover your costs?
- How much do you risk per trade, and should the tool work out the lot for you?
- How many trades do you have open at the same time?
- Where do you trade from: PC, phone or both? Can MT5 run all day on a PC or VPS?
Step 2: the checklist
Tick what a tool does. The count at the bottom adds up as you go, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Ticked: of 20
A tool does not need all 20. Points 1 to 4 and 9 to 12 are the ones we would not compromise on; the rest depends on your plan.
Red flags
- Promises of profit, a "win rate" or "never loses" for a tool that only manages trades.
- A licence check that can close your trades or remove your stop loss.
- A request for your trading password, or "Allow DLL imports" without a clear reason.
- No refund rule and no safe way to test it.
- No word about what happens when your PC is off or MT5 restarts.
- Reviews you cannot check, or countdown timers that push you to buy now.
Speed and where the tool runs
A trade manager closes parts of a trade by sending market orders from your MT5. How fast that happens depends mostly on the connection between your MT5 and the broker's server, and on the broker's execution. No tool can beat either. What helps:
- Run MT5 on a VPS in a data centre close to your broker's server for a low ping. MT5 shows the ping in the bottom-right corner.
- Prefer a stop loss that sits at the broker: it works even when MT5 is closed and does not depend on your connection.
- Expect small differences between a take-profit level and the actual fill in fast markets (slippage). A good tool says so openly.
Step 3: test it on demo in one hour
A short, planned test shows more than any sales page. On a demo account at your own broker:
- Open a small trade in MT5 and check that the stop loss and the take-profit plan appear at once.
- Open a trade on your phone and check that the tool on the PC picks it up.
- Let the first take profit happen (or set it close to the price) and check the closed part in History.
- Restart MT5 while the trade is open. The tool must continue and must not close the same part again.
- Remove the stop loss by hand and see what the tool does.
- Try a lot that cannot be split exactly, for example 0.03 lot with five steps, and see whether it asks or rounds.
- Attach the tool to a second chart of the same symbol and see whether it notices.
- Read the Experts tab: does it match what you saw?
How Gold Position Manager answers the checklist
Here are our answers, including the limits. We do not claim it is the best tool for everyone: if you trade many symbols, or need every exit to work while MT5 is closed, it is not the right tool for you.
| Point | Gold Position Manager |
|---|---|
| Stop loss on every new trade | Yes, also for trades from MT5 and your phone, and for pending orders (setting 102). Puts a removed stop loss back (setting 402). |
| Take profit in steps | Up to 10 steps, each closing the part you choose of the lot you opened. |
| Break-even | After TP1, TP2 or TP3, after a TP number or a profit distance you choose; entry + 1 pip by default, with an option to cover commission and swap (an estimate). |
| Lot from risk | Yes, on the panel's BUY and SELL buttons, from your risk % and the real stop. |
| Several trades | ALL TRADES with the groups ALL, BUY, SELL and IN PROFIT, each with one-click actions. |
| Gold details | 1 pip = 0.10 by default; accepts names that contain XAUUSD (such as XAUUSDm) and GOLD names quoted in USD; spread limit and fast-market warning. |
| Broker limits | Followed; the panel says when the minimum lot, stop distance or freeze distance blocks an action. |
| Restarts | Every step is saved before the close, so a restart never takes the same step twice; a message tells you when the PC was asleep. |
| Two copies | A second chart only watches; a second MT5 on the same account puts take profits on hold. |
| Big actions | Closing a group of trades and booking 100% ask for a second click; a level typed far from the price needs a confirmation. |
| PC off | Only the stop loss, and the last take profit if setting 801 is on, sit at the broker. Take-profit steps and break-even need MT5 running; we recommend a VPS. |
| Symbols | XAUUSD only. |
| DLL and password | No DLL; it never needs your password. |
| Testing and refund | No free trial. Every plan includes demo accounts, and the refund promise applies if it does not work as described: 7 days on monthly, 14 days on yearly and lifetime. |
| Licence and open trades | A licence problem never closes a trade and never removes or widens a stop loss. |
| Not tested yet | Prop-firm rules and FIFO (US-style) accounts. |
Questions
What is the best trade manager for MT5?
There is no single best one. The best tool for you does what your trading plan needs, works safely with your broker's limits and after restarts, and can be tested on a demo account before you pay. Use a checklist to compare tools on the same points.
Is a free trade manager good enough?
It can be. MT5 itself offers a stop loss, a take profit and a trailing stop. If you need take-profit steps, break-even rules or lots from your risk, check a free tool against the same points as a paid one: the safety points matter more than the price.
Do I need a trade manager made for gold?
Not necessarily, but gold has its own details: a pip of 0.10, large and fast moves, wide spreads at news and different symbol names at each broker. A general tool must handle all of them correctly.
Can a trade manager make me profitable?
No tool can promise that. A trade manager carries out your exit plan the same way every time; whether the plan makes money depends on your entries, your risk and the market.
